Did you know that elephants in Africa are in trouble? Third-grade students had the opportunity to read about a special place in Kenya, where people are taking care and protecting elephant orphans. In the first activity, students read individually the book “Caring for Elephant Orphans” to recognize and improve their pronunciation; then they worked with a partner and answered reading comprehension questions. Students reflected on the importance to implement caring actions to protect endangered species, take care of their habitat, and preserve the environment. Resumen: Los estudiantes de segundo grado, leyeron acerca de un lugar muy especial en Kenya, en donde las personas cuidan y protegen a los elefantes huérfanos. En la primera actividad se realizó lectura individual, silenciosa para reconocer vocabulario y mejorar su pronunciación; luego trabajaron en parejas y contestaron algunas preguntas sobre lo leído. Los estudiantes tuvieron la oportunidad de reflexionar sobre las especies que se encuentran en vía de extinción y sobre las acciones que se pueden hacer para preservar las especies, cuidar su hábitat y preservar el ambiente. A continuación escucharán a Juan Felipe Abondano y Mathias Bravo realizando una lectura oral sobresaliente del libro Cuidando elefantes huérfanos. Felicitaciones por esta excelente lectura y por ayudar a estos animales grandiosos.
