This week we introduced the topic Halves and Quarters with the First Grade Students. It was a great opportunity for them to play with Play-Doh, make pizzas and divide them into halves and quarters. They applied the concept of the whole unit and its division into 2 or 4 equal parts, as well as that they had a lot of fun. This way, they used concrete materials and could see applied Mathematics in their daily lives. Then, it was very easy for them to go work with the pictorial and abstract representations.

Resumen:Esta semana presentamos el tema mitades y cuartos con los estudiantes de Transición. Fue una gran oportunidad para ellos jugar con plasticine para hacer pizzas y dividirlas en mitades y cuartos. Aplicaron el concepto de unidad entera y su división en 2 o 4 partes iguales. Además, se divirtieron mucho. De esta forma, utilizaron materiales concretos y pudieron ver las Matemáticas aplicadas en su vida cotidiana. Entonces, les fue muy fácil pasar a las representaciónes pictórica y abstracta.
