English For Fusca

Chía, Cundinamarca

Teaching in order to learn.

With the implementation of this project, we want to certify 24 first-grade students from Fusca School as bilingual (level B) for 3 years. This English program is developed using the bilingualism strategies of our School. The course is held in our school during the week from Tuesday to Friday, from 12:30 to 4:00 p.m.

Our social sustainability projects include aspects that promote the development of values such as respect, equity and solidarity. These projects are also characterized by the three fundamental elements of sustainability: the social, the environmental and the economic element. For these reasons, ‘English for Fusca’ is an institutional project of bilingualism, which seeks that students of the Educational Institution Fusca in Chía learn English as a second language, so that they can communicate appropriately in this language, in various situations of daily life.

This project is a way to approach our community and an opportunity to improve the quality of life of those children involved in it, and therefore an improvement for the family nucleus. This situation fulfills one of the sustainable development objectives proposed by the UN (2015): “Objective 4: Guarantee inclusive, equitable and quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for everyone”

For the Rochester Educational Foundation, it is important that students of the public educational institutions in Chía can interact with any person in the world not only in their native language, but also by using their knowledge of English to access more information and get to be much more competent both academically and socially. Therefore, studying in a bilingual school represents an opportunity, a challenge that requires time, commitment and effort to learn, and for a private institution such as the Rochester Educational Foundation, it is an opportunity to contribute to the improvement of the quality of education in a structured way, thus shortening the inequity gap.

We are expecting to collect 35 million COP to:

  • improve the living conditions of 24 children of the Fusca Educational Institution by providing opportunities for academic improvement.
  • support the learning of English as a second language for 24 children of the Fusca Educational Institution.
  • provide food for 24 children from the Fusca Educational Institution and support their nutritional and psychological well-being.
  • provide the didactic resources, English textbooks and spaces for 24 children from the Fusca Educational Institution to learn English at Rochester School.

Colegio Ambientalista

Building Community

Rochester School’s purpose with this project is to provide resources and conditions to optimize the infrastructure of ‘Colegio Ambientalista’, and at the same time, to support and assess the school with professional development and curriculum improvement.

The social sustainability projects at the Rochester Educational Foundation are characterized by the three fundamental elements of sustainability: the social, the environmental and the economic one. For these reasons, the institutional project with ‘Colegio Ambientalista’ will support environmental and social sustainability projects at that school, as well as those related to professional and curricular improvement.

We are expecting to collect 20 million COP to:

  • collaborate with resources to start a plan to improve the infrastructure of ‘Colegio Ambientalista’
  • work hand in hand to accomplish professional and curricular improvement.
  • support the school with resources to create specialized classrooms (documentary material and furniture).

Santiago Felipe Escobar School

Santa Catalina, Bolivar

Transforming the future

Rochester School’s purpose with this project is to improve its facilities so that students have optimal conditions for academic and social performance. There are also training sessions in sustainability and advice to improve the curriculum.

In this school, we found that there is a great deterioration of its facilities, which does not provide optimal conditions for student learning. It has water problems generating health problems. It presents a lot of issues with waste management generating a large accumulation of these which is detrimental to the community and presents great needs for documentary material for the library and specialized classrooms. For these reasons, the institutional project with the Santiago Felipe Escobar School is within the framework of sustainability of the Foundation to support and accompany the community of this institution to achieve continuous improvement at the academic, social and environmental levels.

We are expecting to collect 23 million COP to:

  • improve the facilities so that students have optimal conditions.
  • perform counseling in the professional and curricular improvement.
  • develop environmental plans in the management of solid waste.
  • implement solutions to obtain optimal water for human consumption.
  • provide documentary material to the library and specialized classrooms.
