Improving Children’s Quality of Life
Rochester School supports solidarity initiatives such as ‘Operación Sonrisa’ by providing the comprehensive rehabilitation of 400 children with cleft lip and palate in order to improve their lives in both their own communities and the world.
Rochester School supports the ‘Fundación Operación Sonrisa Colombia’, an entity whose purpose is to help children with cleft lip and palate from vulnerable communities. In Colombia, approximately 1,000 children are born each year with this pathology (LPH). They tend to have difficulties when feeding, communicating and socializing, they also have low self-esteem and are even rejected by their social environment.
With the support provided to ‘Operación Sonrisa’, these children are offered new life opportunities that favor their proper development. This is also a way of building up Colombia to be a better country.
The contributions made by the Rochester Educational Foundation, parents, students and employees of our School have allowed to support the ‘Operación Sonrisa’ programs in various regions of Colombia.
This project has a volunteer program in which students can develop virtues such as kindness and service, solidarity and leadership through the interaction with the families that face this condition, through the accompaniment to families on surgical days, and through the promotion of ‘Operación Sonrisa’ to collect funds that contribute to the surgical and multidisciplinary treatment of children born with this condition.
One of our goals with the implementation of solidarity actions in this project is to have a greater coverage. In order to do so, our sustainability team sponsors the treatment of 4 children every year, so that their rehabilitation is thorough. We also provide accompaniment to the families throughout all the process since this condition involves all the family members socially and economically.
We are expecting to collect 18 million COP to:
- help families with the thorough rehabilitation of 4 children with cleft lip and palate.
- provide the accompaniment to families throughout all the hospitalization and rehabilitation process.
Improving Children’s Quality of Life
Rochester School supports the FEL Foundation by providing rehabilitation and therapeutic support to more than 38 children with special needs.
This Solidarity program is oriented towards the integral and individual therapeutic rehabilitation for children with different abilities and learning disorders. These treatments are carried out by a team of committed specialists who contribute with their knowledge so that children with these conditions achieve progress, thus contributing to the improvement of the children’s quality of life and that of their families’.
The rehabilitation program that is provided to children of low-income families includes phono-audiology, occupational therapy, physiotherapy, music therapy and neurosensory therapy.
With the contributions made by the Rochester Educational Foundation, parents, students and collaborators of our School, we have been able to contribute with the integral therapeutic treatment for these children.
This project has a volunteer program in which students can develop virtues such as kindness and service, solidarity and leadership through their support in various activities of the foundation, collecting donations and participating in the promotion of initiatives carried out by the Foundation to keep up the program.
One of our goals with the implementation of solidarity actions for the children of the foundation is to have a greater coverage. In order to do so, our sustainability team set up a goal to contribute with the treatment of 10 children every year.
We are expecting to collect 20 million COP to:
- help the Foundation with the rehabilitation of 10 children with different abilities and learning disorders.
- accompany the families through the rehabilitation process of their children.
- promote the Foundation and support their activities to keep up their project.
