Educational project

Our educational project aims at using and applying knowledge through a healthy, courteous and joyful school environment to develop useful competencies for students’ lives and the world in multiple areas of knowledge such as English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, mathematics, natural sciences, social sciences, computer science, arts, physical education, religious education and character development. It is based on the psychology of Dr. William Glasser’s Choice Theory. Rochester School was certified as a Glasser Quality School in 2013 for having achieved:

  1. A school environment based on trust, courtesy and collaboration leading to optimal learning, free of coercion, fears and threats. The environment challenges excellence without criticism, punishments or rewards, which teach poor use of power.
  2. The development of useful skills for life and the world with high levels of quality and innovation, which transcends the old, simple model of acquiring knowledge. Rochester School focuses on using and improving knowledge in situations relevant for the students’ lives and the world.
  3. The development of internal responsibility in students with regards to their integral health (physical, mental and spiritual) and happiness through the application of Choice Theory, a psychology that explains human behavior. Students learn to become effective managers of their own lives without depriving others of the same opportunity.

Useful skills for life and the world: LETRICAS

The certification as a LEED Gold, Green and Healthy School (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) granted by the United States Green Building Council has allowed our school to facilitate and promote considerable improvement in health and learning in its new pioneering facilities since 2012, together with considerable reductions in environmental impact. The air quality inside the classrooms helps oxygenation of the brain and optimum learning. An intelligent lighting system takes advantage of diffused natural light to provide students’ eyes with healthy and optimal learning; the sound insulation of the classroom facilitates for concentration and learning, solar photovoltaic and thermal systems, our innovative wastewater treatment plant, orchards, composting, landscaping and our waste management plan are all part of our sustainability curriculum for students to learn about environmental conservation and nature appreciation.

The certification as a school Recognized for Excellence (R4E) by EFQM (European Foundation for Quality Management) has allowed us to ensure the desired results through processes, and to provide quality service oriented towards innovation and excellence.
